INTERWOVEN is an ongoing series of three-dimensional woven textiles created on the industrial jacquard loom at the Textile Center in Haslach, Austria. Developed during a residency at the Center in 2021, the project explores the potential of the jacquard loom to produce multi-layered textiles that simulate large-scale traditional weaving and braiding patterns found in the museum’s archive.

Through an inventive combination of materials and bindings, a technique was developed to create a hollow, reversible structure onto which any woven pattern can be applied. Composed of layers with distinct material properties, the textiles transform after a steaming treatment, which causes the inner elastane layer to shrink, elevating the sturdy linen outer layers. As a result, tubular diagonals interlace like warp and weft, imitating large-scale braided and woven patterns.
